To Bob — you say it’s your birthday…

We’ve come a long, long way,

if I am right…

You painted the railroad tracks from my early childhood on Grove Street in Bridgeport, and so much more

You painted them with a red rose, from the movie

The Red Shoes, that changed my life

You spoke eloquently about your childhood and the air raid drills, and helped me to recall and heal,

You’ve told the truth about what was happening to me, the nightingale, when everyone around me was telling lies…

Harsh and vicious though it seems,

it is far preferable to the deadly silence,

And so, I can say, without rancor

I appreciate what you are doing…

May you have the very best of days…

(Here’s my cover of Bob’s lovely I Believe in You)…
